How to become a Sigma?

Can Stoicism offer what it takes to become a modern day sigma? If by sigma, you mean those who radiate confidence, work on themselves and ignore what others think of them, absolutely!

If anything, stoicism is primarily based on these qualities. So, what does it take to become a modern day sigma?

MARCUS AURELIUS

Marcus Aurelius is arguably regarded as one of the greatest rulers of his time. However, he left everything to find deeper meaning in his life. This led him to contributing to stoicism with his astute and valuable advices, one of which includes:

Why do you care what other people think?
“I have often wondered how it is that every man loves himself more than all the rest of men, but yet sets less value on his own opinion of himself than on the opinion of others.”

Simply put, Marcus emphasizes on how self love and esteem can triumph over what others think of you....

How to stay motivated all the time?

“At dawn, when you have trouble getting out of bed, tell yourself: “I have to go to work — as a human being. What do I have to complain of, if I’m going to do what I was born for — the things I was brought into the world to do? Or is this what I was created for? To huddle under the blankets and stay warm?”

Marcus Aurelius is calling out those who choose to stay lazy rather than putting in the work. This goes against the virtues of stoicism and human nature. Marcus always strives to put in the work which we all should strive for as well.

Reading these two quotes on a regular basis will motivate you enough to become what we all know today as Sigma.
